On this Mother’s Day, we wanted to pay a tribute to the rock in our life, our Mom - Rita Jawaharlal.
Our Mom is many things - a mother of three women, a daughter, a sister to our three incredible aunts, a sister-in-law to our aunts and uncles, and the sunshine to all she meets. At 18, she left her home country to go to a new country and pursue higher education. She learned a new language and left with a Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering. In her mid-20s, she followed our Dad to the United States to build a life for her family and, again, left her home country behind. Every step of the way - then and today - she exudes compassion, strength, joy, and hope.
Our Mom is our hero for countless reasons.
She’s the kindest soul who always goes above and beyond in every manner. She’s the most hard working person in the world who has worked tirelessly and devoted endless energy, love, and support to all around her. After years of raising us three girls, our Mom started a local Kumon center (Kumon of Claremont North) - a math and reading tutoring center to help prepare K-12 students for high school and beyond. We say that in starting her Kumon center, our Mom shared her maternal love and energy to the hundreds of kids she supports every week.
Our earliest memories of our Mom involve her teaching us to swim at the community pool in our Michigan neighborhood. She taught us our first steps - in water and on land - and empowered us tools to live life with joy and passion. She has run a marathon, scuba dived around the world, and speaks five languages.
She is the essence of a modern woman and has shown us how to be brave, make our voice heard, and own our power. Her love is immeasurable and, as we grow, our appreciate for her builds more every day.
At STEM Center USA, we are honored to work with and know so many incredible mothers and parents. We learn so much from each of them. One of our opening questions with each family who comes to our center is “what are you looking for?” We love hearing everyone’s unique answers that are all rooted in providing hands-on, fun life experiences for their children. Our mission in all that we do is to do just that. All families, parents, and children are so unique and we love curated, individualized experiences for each child that goes through our program. As partners in education, we love sharing our programs and learning from each one of our families every day.
We are grateful to all the parents, uncles and aunts, grandparents, and community who supported us to raise us. We take great pride and responsibility in being a part of the community of all the kids we work with.
Happy Mother’s Day and thank you to all the parents who raised us!
