Why Junior STEM
It's time to bring designs to life...that means programming! Junior STEM introduces students to the world of robotics through building and coding activities! Junior STEMers program their creations using an easy-to-comprehend graphical programming interface that lays the foundation of programming logic. Coding at this age means introducing students to logical flowcharts and a variation of parameters (ex. movement requires attention to direction, speed, and duration).
What Makes Junior STEM Special
Junior STEM is the perfect camp for kids interested in robotics, building, and coding! Whether your kid is interested in cars, animals, super hero characters, or dinosaurs, our camps have it all. Activities are designed with new and returning students in mind. This means we have projects that set a strong foundation in terminology and building concepts for our new students, while at the same time providing exciting new builds for our returning students. Each week will provide new builds, so students can take multiple camps throughout the summer, or just one! Key features of Junior STEM include:
- Introduction to graphical coding
- Usage of sensors
- Experiential learning - figure things out by physically trying it out
- High-energy camp atmosphere for young inventors and creators
- Engaging and themed robot designs
- Learning to share and partner in groups of two
- Learning to work in a team and set goals
- Introduction to technology and using an iPad
- Outdoor play at Claremont McKenna in a safe, supervised campus
- Camp sizes with a max of 18 students
Students will pair up with another student for their robot builds. We highly encourage teamwork and actively work with students to teach them how to properly communicate and share with their partners. At this age, learning good teamwork skills is crucial! Robotics is the perfect way to mix teamwork, play, and learning.
